CLEVELAND, OH – OHIO HIP HOP AWARDS & MUSIC CONFERENCE SUSPENDED FOR 2018

THE Ohio Hip Hop Awards & Music Conference, a staple in the Midwest entertainment industry for the past 12 years, has suspended production for the 2018 season. The 3 principal partners – D. Lorand Jackson, Derrick McKenzie, & Mike Vasquez, did not come to this decision easily, as they exhausted all reasonable possibilities before coming to the conclusion. There are literally thousands of artists, producers, DJ's, dancers, managers, fans etc who look forward to the Ohio Hip Hop Awards & Music Conference each year – so it was not a decision that was taken lightly.

Derrick “Majestic” McKenzie said “our lives have really changed and evolved over the past few years. I'm married with children now, and my family and I relocated to Florida in the middle of OHHA season last year. That was rough but we did our best to still pull it off. But now, being here in Florida definitely makes running the day to day operations much more of a challenge.”

Mike “Garbs” Vasquez chimed in to agree. “12 years ago when we started, we were in a totally different space. We now have more career responsibilities, & it's hard to find time to do  the OHHA's because it's grown from a 1 day event in 2006 to a week long series of events. It truly grew into a full time commitment, and we don't want to do it if we can't do it the right way”.

D.Lorand Jackson had this to say: “Honestly I'm not sure what the future holds yet. I feel the OHHA's served it's purpose & accomplished it's mission. We helped people advance their careers & actually make a LIVING off of their art – it feels good to be able to say that. We created a movement that will go down in history. But nothing lasts forever. After 12 years I want a new challenge. We may re-tool the whole operation for 2019. We have had some key industry players approach us about incorporating new ideas. We've had serious offers to buy the business – we may sell it & let another group keep it going. The brand name holds a lot of value. We're considering a lot of options right now, many of them very exciting. But we know whatever is next we wanna take 2018 off to figure it all out”.
